MDCAT Paper Pattern

There are 210 MCQs in an MDCAT. You will get 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete this test. There will be no negative markings as per the current policy of the PMDC. If there are any changes in the policy, we will let you know as soon as possible on our blog. Anyhow, 3 hours and 30 minutes for 210 MCQs mean that you will have one minute for an MCQ each. This is a huge boost from the previous policy where a student would hardly get 40 seconds for solving one question. No negative marking is also a great improvement from the previous policy. This lifts a lot of pressure from you and lets you focus on your exam.

National MDCAT Policy

Before a single National MDCAT, each province would have its own entrance tests for medical colleges. This had the problem of a lack of uniformity in the quality of entrance tests. Thus, there was a need for a single MDCAT for the entire nation. But this created a problem with the syllabus. If you want a single MDCAT for everyone in the country, there should also be a single syllabus. But, this was also not as simple as it sounded. In Punjab alone, students of Federal board and A-levels students would face problems because they had studied different sbllabus for college.

Thus, it was important to create a syllabus that had contents from every syllabus from each province. For this purpose, common content in each province was included, but the exceptions were also included. Now a uniform syllabus was created and this was able to solve the problems stated above. Now, no one can say that any specific group of students is being favored or anything has been asked out of this syllabus.

To create this syllabus, NMDA and PMDC reviewed the syllabuses of different boards in the country to come up with a syllabus that had topics from each syllabus.

MDCAT is essential to filter students that have the necessary critical thinking ability, problem-solving skills, and basic knowledge about medical sciences, and other social and behavioral sciences that are required to study advanced medicine and surgery taught in medical schools.
